Possibly our most remarking rescue yet, Koa has beaten the odds again and again.
Found dragging herself around using her front legs, she was originally scheduled for humane euthanasia to end her suffering. As fate would have it, she ended up with us. Koa was instead diagnosed with an exceedingly rare bacterial infection in her spine that was progressing its way up her body. Death was imminent. Intensive treatment offered her a narrow chance of survival, but we took it. While she survived the infection, the damage was rendered permanent after extensive rehabilitation attempts. The remaining limbs continued to be tangled, with ligaments stretching, muscle wasting, and ulcers a constant threat.
In concert with multiple vets, we have decided to move forward with a drastic double amputation. This will leave Koa with just two legs. Her surgeries are upcoming, her spirit is unstoppable, and we are determined to stay with her as she beats all the odds.
Despite her drastic condition, Koa moves through the world and her daily life like the other dogs. She is affectionate, playful, and very adamant about her feeding schedule.
